The desert has long been a relaxing point of interest for me as a local Angeleno. For a decade I have frequented the desert as a place of retreat, rest and relaxation. Palm springs/La Quinta has a surplus of unique eateries nightlife, poolsides, shopping and of course the obligatory golfing and tennis
On my most recent trip I had the pleasure of checking out the recently renovated Sands Hotel. This is an area one should value and recognize the historic prevalence, memorable events and historical figures. For example, The Sands was once home to Frank Sinatra and the rat pack, endless other world leaders, and actors whom have frequented the desert for the past century.
The new hotels design is Moroccan in theme and boosts a truly picturesque restaurant in its grandiose courtyard. Which is amply titled the Pink Cabana. The pink cabana features a large, quaint courtyard-complete with a modern swimming pool. The inner decor is reminiscent of 1950s glamour complete with black and white checkered floors, soft paint, pale color palettes and feminine touches throughout. The lighting is extremely unique and the setting overall is quite romantic.
The outdoor seating offered ample heaters and fire pits. But let’s not forget the food! From the innovative cocktails featuring edible flowers. They greatly complement the cocktail and numb ones pallet to better taste all of the alcoholic fusions. To the flaky and buttery salmon and rich duck -this cuisine did not disappoint. We finished it off with an absolutely divine slice of Keylime pie and homemade whipped cream.
This location backs up to the popular Nest a nightlife of sorts featuring live music, endless cocktails with a rowdy but sophisticated crowd. I would undoubtedly recommend checking out the Sands Hotel if not to stay, at least to dine and experience the sheer hospitality and elegance that we did.
